Rutherglen's First Environmentally Friendly Motel
Over the past 12 months we have been progressively upgrading and modernising our motel to include all the latest creature comforts and in doing so incorporating many environmentally friendly features into the design. 
In December we were assessed by AAA Tourism who manage the national accommodation star rating scheme and were awarded Green Stars for our environmentally friendly initatives.
To qualify as Green STAR a property we have to achieve adequate points in the areas of Energy Efficiency, Waste Minimisation and Water Management.
Energy efficiency: We use energy efficient light bulbs and fixtures, inverter air-conditioning, signage reminding guests to turn off appliances, provide natural ventilation and ensure windows are closed in the evenings when heating/cooling is used the most.
Waste minimisation: Our rooms have a large recycling bin to collect all glass, PET and paper products, re-use towel option, optional newspapers, printer cartridge recycling, recycled office paper and no change linen options.
Water management: Water efficient dual flush toilets, our shower heads are so good no one believes they only use 9lt per minute, 3 star vanity taps, environmentally friendly cleaning products, ensure that there are no leaking taps, use water efficient dishwasher and our main washing machine is a front loader, provide shower buckets for guest to collect water for the garden and pump the water from the laundry onto our gardens.
